The ultra-right journalistic resource “Sputnik and Pogrom” published a report by the editor-in-chief about a trip to Pyatigorsk (here: http://vk.com/wall-40399920_217648 ). I will not talk about the degree of subjectivity of the author and the originality of the style of presentation of the material. I will only note that it reflects real existing problems. One of which is South Russian (Cossack) separatism caused by a sharp weakening of the state, the permanent crisis of the institution of the nation and a number of ethnic conflicts in the Stavropol region. Lenta.ru wrote on the same topic, only in softer tones, last week (here http://lenta.ru/articles/2013/02/19/skrai/ ).
What am I talking about? When I publish critical reviews about the Cossacks on my LiveJournal, many of my readers, how can I put it, “rejoice at the exposure of the mummers,” or something. At the same time, for example, the Kuban authorities are trying to flirt with the ideas of nationalism, including using Cossacks for this purpose. And even if a not very good message has developed around the KKV, one cannot help but notice that our “golden” Alexander Nikolaevich, among other things, is collecting a personal paramilitary (albeit with a stretch) force, controlled by him personally, brick by brick. Although Tkachev is certainly far from Ramzan Akhmatovich with his own army. And what’s most interesting is that the governor’s experiments with the Cossack classes and the Cossack police (in the original, non-Soviet sense of the word) began to be adopted by the authorities of Stavropol.
In general, Stavropol and Krasnodar are two models of development of the Cossacks, the first with strong support from the state, the second - ignored until the last moment. Both models ended with the inclusion of Cossacks in the police force with the tacit consent of Moscow. At the same time, the Cossack units are in fact an attempt to resist the archaic North Caucasian mentality at a time of extreme weakness of the state and the institution of the nation. If being Russian is not relevant, you have to become a Cossack... At least this is the question in the Stavropol region, which is struggling with mountain pressure.
In the Krasnodar region, with all its local nationalities. problems, while the issue is not so acute. That doesn’t stop Alexander Nikolayevich from talking populistly about “Kuban for Kuban residents.” And find a response in the hearts of the electorate. Since no one has canceled the general Caucasian problems for our region.
