The Moscow city military prosecutor's office yesterday opened a criminal case into the death of the former commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo, head of the combat training department of the Russian airborne troops, Major General Vladimir Kazantsev. According to the preliminary version, on Monday at about 14.00 the general stopped by his home on Chestova Street, but it turned out that he had forgotten the keys to the apartment. Then Kazantsev tried to move to his balcony from his neighbor’s using a rope, but slipped and fell from the eighth floor. According to the military prosecutor of the capital, Sergei Alekseev, investigators have no information that the death of the general is in any way connected with a conflict in the family, with his wife. According to them, the death was the result of an accident.
