“If I were a citizen of Ukraine, I would fully sympathize with the Euromaidan participants, and, most likely, I would take part in it myself. European values, rights and freedoms, visa-free entry into the European Union, in the end, full membership in the EU in the foreseeable future would look much more attractive to me than the role of a “junior partner” in relations with the unpredictable Russian Federation and a gradual slide towards Russian (and then, probably, Belarusian) political realities.
Where opposition leaders (in the case of Ukraine, the main rival of the current president in the last elections) are in prison, democratic procedures have been turned into complete fictions, independent media are closed, and opposition events are dispersed."
