The Spartak football club can today officially announce the resignation of head coach Stanislav Cherchesov. The reason for the dismissal is the unsatisfactory results that the team has been showing lately. Spartak is currently in fourth place in the Russian Championship standings and, having suffered a crushing defeat in the first match of the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League from Dynamo Kyiv (1:4), has practically lost its chances of making it to the group stage of the tournament. This is the first decision that was made with the participation of Valery Karpin, who was appointed a week ago to the post of general director of the club. In the near future, the appointment of another former Spartak player, Alexander Mostovoy, to the position of sports director may be announced.
