The American Pfizer and the German Biontech reported that they sent an application to the US supervisory departments with a request to resolve the emergency use of their coronavirus vaccines for adolescents aged 12 to 15 years.
The companies, as Interfax reports, promised in the coming days to submit similar applications in other countries.
Clinical tests of the drug on children of this age group showed one hundred percent effectiveness and quick immune response, manufacturers said.
It is noted that the subjects tolerated adverse reactions from the administration of the drug, while there were the same effects as during tests with the participation of people 16 - 25 years. The companies promised that all research participants will be under the supervision of specialists within two years after the introduction of the second dose.
Previously, manufacturers have already reported that the vaccine showed 100% efficiency in preventing coronavirus infection in adolescents aged 12-15 years. It is also stated that people from this age group "tolerate well" the vaccine.
In early April, Pfizer and Biontech announced that their Covid-19 vaccine is effective by 91.3% at least up to six months after the second dose of the drug and that it showed one hundred percent effectiveness against the South African coronavirus strain.
Biontech added that companies conduct clinical tests of vaccines among children aged six months to 11 years. Vaccines have already started the tests of a group of children from five to 11 years old. Testing the drug for children for two to five years is planned to start too.
