According to eyewitnesses, in the city of Piedras Negras, a river overflowing its banks washed away private homes and cars. In this settlement, located on the border with the United States, there is currently no water supply, and the supply of gas and electricity has been interrupted. In the Piedras Negras River flowing through the city, the water level exceeded its normal level by eight meters within 15 minutes. The cause of the disaster is said to be unprecedented heavy rains.
The American military command is considering the possibility of transferring additional forces to Iraq. There, Shiites, who make up 60% of the country's population, responded with armed resistance and mass demonstrations to the outlawing of their leader, the young Sheikh al-Sadr. Eight American soldiers and a Salvadoran soldier have already died in armed clashes. Coalition troops used helicopters and tanks against the Shiites, armed with machine guns and hand grenades.

Their posters read in Spanish and Arabic: “We are for peace; no to terrorism.”
