Mazda will release a new generation of the RX-7 sports car in 2016, equipping it with a 254-horsepower rotary engine, reports Avtomoskva.com .
The double sports compartment is currently under development. It is assumed that the novelty will receive the MX-5 platform, the output of which is scheduled for 2015.
The chief designer of the Japanese brand IKUO Maeda is working on the stylistic solution of the external and internal type of car. Note that his father was the head of the designer department of Mazda in 1970, when the original version of the RX-7 was created.
Maeda said that he still does not know what the new compartment should look like, and joked that he wanted to build it before he retired.
Recall that the release of this model was stopped in 2002.
According to Autocar, the serial version of the RX-7 will receive a regular gasoline engine. However, Mazda is actively working on a new rotary engine. So, recently at a technical exhibition in Tokyo, a compact single -chamber rotor engine installed on the Mazda 2 EV was demonstrated.
