The African American artist Kehinde Wiley was noticed at the end of the zero: he painted realistic portraits of black young guys on a motley background. His fame became worldwide when in 2010 Puma invited him to draw three Negro football players for the advertising company of sports shoes for the World Cup.
A few years ago, the artist began the long-term series of The World Stage projects in the same technique, depicting guys from hip-hop-piles in the canons of the visual tradition of a particular country. So, three episodes were already published and exhibited - about Brazil, Africa and China. The success of the series was very large, and art critics wrote about the continuity and influence of the classic paintings of Titian and Egra on the artist.
The new Kehinde Wiley exhibition from this cycle is called "The World Stage: Israel" and is dedicated to the visual traditions of Israel: the artist was inspired by his last trip to Tel Aviv. The exhibition will be held at the Roberts and Tilton California Gallery.
