Several heads of the administration of the town of Elektrostal near Moscow were arrested by officers of the Department of Economic Crimes of the Moscow Region Main Internal Affairs Directorate and the local Department of Economic Crimes. Acting vice-mayor and at the same time chairman of the state property management committee (Kugi) Boris Zaitsev, head of the privatization department of the same committee Sergei Sosyurko and his deputy Anatoly Uvarov were detained on Wednesday evening on suspicion of receiving a large bribe. A local businessman gave the money to the officials for the successful outcome of the auction for the sale of a large store. It was not by chance that the heads of the city administration came to the attention of UBEP employees. The detectives were interested in the too luxurious, in their opinion, life that Zaitsev, Sosyurko and Uvarov led. Last year, they almost simultaneously bought prestigious apartments for themselves and constantly went on vacation to Europe. In addition, almost half of the entrepreneurs in Elektrostal knew that at any time they could take out a large loan from the vice-mayor without any problems (during the search, the police found a lot of promissory notes in his safe). On April 18, KUGI was supposed to hold an auction for the sale of a large shopping complex located in the city center. The official price for it was set at 1.5 million rubles, but to one businessman who expressed a desire to purchase the store, Mr. Zaitsev and his subordinates made it clear that if the entrepreneur wanted to win the tender, they personally needed to pay another 500 thousand rubles. The businessman contacted the UBEP. When the money was collected and marked, the leaders of KUGI, the day before the auction, unexpectedly asked to add another 130 thousand rubles, promising to deduct the same amount from the official price of the store. After a successful tender for the businessman, he handed over a bribe to the officials, and they were detained.
