Maxim Zorkin

FS presents an interview with Maxim Zorkin, DJ, snowboarder and lover of Dombay.

Maxim Zorkin was born on January 28, 1972 in Moscow. Since the late 80s, he has been engaged in an underground post-rock culture, played in the rock groups on the guitar. In 1990, he was an administrator of the festival post-punk entitled "AntiSucidal Trendry".

After the Cosmos Pavilion, the famous Riva Party Gagarin Party, on December 12, 1991, was carried away by electronic dance music. The first DJ Seth played in the summer of 1992 on the Cotton Club ship. I also met Eric Duval, who had a great influence on the musical taste of Maxim. It was with him that Maxim gradually began to comprehend the foundations of the genre.

Since the winter of 1992 to 1994, Maxim and Eric have been playing in clubs Hermitage and Manhattan Express, and Maxim is already under the pseudonym Zorkin. In the summer of 1993, they together participate in organizing a unique festival of music in the Hermitage Garden "25 hours". In 1994, Eric was leaving for France. In the same 1994, Maxim meets a company of friends who are going to open a club under the strange name "Ptyuch".

Since December 1994, DJ Zorkin has become a resident of this club, where it works until its closure. After that, Maxim becomes a resident "Water Club" .c 1996 DJ Zorkin actively touring the cities of the former USSR and Europe. For a short time, it works on 106.8FM radio, and also participates in the project of Radio "Substance 69.26".

The promoter and resident of the Snow Party parties in the Internet Pube Flematic Dog and the resident of the MIX, 16 Tons and Park clubs. With the festival "Tusart" traveled and played in Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, Tunisia. Maxim is fond of Snowbrem and often takes part in the organization of the musical program of the competition and plays snowboarding in the mountains of the Caucasus. In addition, as a producer, periodically participates in the organization of parties, presentations and concerts with foreign musicians and DJs.

- How do you like Red Polyana?

I really like to ride there, but of course, I have my own characteristics of this place. For example, a specific service - you pay money in other resorts and get a certain amount of rise, everything is regulated by the rules. And here you are not safe from anything, the main thing is the human factor and local customs. If you discard this, the mountains are excellent for skiing, one of the best. There is a very strange snow - you fall into it very deeply. It is crumbly like powder.

- And the Caucasus camps? What is happening there? And what are you doing there?

- I was the first DJ to come to the annual Spring Dombui camp. All the best riders gather in Dombai. They arrange photo shoots there and a light content. But the main goal of collecting all advanced people is a party and rather long - 2-3 weeks. Celebrate the end of the season. The infrastructure, in principle, allows you to place all those who came, but we again rest on the specifics of each of the Russian ski resorts. You understand that this is not Europe at all, where you paid money and concluded a contract. The way your vacation will turn out is unpredictable. Nevertheless, I am comfortable in Dombai, I'm used to it there. I know where I need to go, what is useless to demand and what you can enjoy.

- What type of skiing is the closest to you?

-I love to ride outside the highway, through the forest. It happens scary, especially if you get into some story. But most often you feel great, there is such beauty around that breathtaking. This is on a target you can accelerate to 60 km/h, but here you have to constantly dodge the trees, use equipment, and this is additional adrenaline.

“ Is there a replacement for Freirayu in your life?”

-The border will not replace anything. And then, it seems to me that I am already very adult and I don’t want to deal with new traumatic sports. In winter, instead of mountains, I go to the oceans and look closely at surfing. Maybe someday, but I feel that water is not my element.

- What do you think about the Olympics in Sochi?

-Thisha seemed to me that ours would not be pulled and that this story was very politicized. But now I see that today in the world it is no longer worried about anyone: or not, the whole story is just tugging around the economic blanket. The Olympics in itself is not at all what I, for example, are looking for in sports. She is far from extreme.

- Yes, but after all, snowboarding competitions have recently been included in the Winter Olympics ...

-Despite this, they, in principle, contradict the philosophy of snowboarding. Even eminent snowboarders stay away from the Olympic movement. These are young people who protest against Olympic officialders and make their own alternative sports history. Any Olympic movement is led by old people and functionaries who have nothing to do with the philosophy of extreme, even classical - such as snowboarding.

- What do you think, about the girls-blessed girls who took our first medals in Vancouver?

In the 80s, Freestyle appeared and from it the whole extreme history of skis in Russia began. This is ski acrobatics. What is now happening with snowboarding and skiing in Russia is a great break -in forward. We are all from the Soviet Union and it is clear that it used to be an elite sport, and now it is available to everyone. The girls are now about 20 years old. When Vladimir Putin came to power, the girls were 10 years old. Mining skis is a favorite sport of Putin. When he came to power, the construction of ski bases began everywhere and in 8 years a new generation of athletes who give us medals grew. When there is adequate technical means, the result appears.

- Do you think our youth is ready for the fact that after the Olympiad there will be a new and large infrastructure for winter sports, including extreme ones?

-Of course, people are ready, they are very waiting for this. Many pros and lovers spend all winter in Europe. And this is much cheaper, because prices in the same Red Polyana are madness. What will be done for the Olympics will remain after it. It is very important to properly dispose of all these skulls, tracks. If we are talking about young people, then there should be a good pricing policy. And we have high prices, because these resorts are few. If there is an alternative and competition, then prices will fall. Another important thing is the philosophy of the resort. If you maintain elitism and make people less, it is clear that no available resort will work. Young people need an annual park in which there will be no elite skiers. Halhpes, Big-Eira-all this will be in great demand. For young people, this is the most important thing. It seems to me that the youth today does not want to engage in classic sports for the most part, she needs extreme. For this interest, an adequate offer is needed.

- What should be the Olympics in Sochi? Should we, by aesthetics and style, follow the path of Eurovision in Moscow?

- No, this, of course, should not be a poppy show. For the sample, I think, you can take either in Alberville in 1992. Then they attracted Jean Paul Gauthier and other French avant-garde designers. I have not seen anything cooler than what was done by them.

I did not like what was in Vancouver and I am scared to imagine that something similar in aesthetic plan can repeat itself with us. It is necessary to arrange a large competition with a very high bar for Russian and foreign artists who could develop aesthetics of games, ceremonies.

- It was decided with the artists, but what to do with music? What should it be?

- Approximately like the march of Darth Vader from Star Wars. To show that the most serious people, powerful forces are involved in the Olympics. And there are no jokes here, everything will go fine!

“But the topic of Weider is by no means funny in his tonality.”

- And for me there is nothing fun here. The festival “Peace. Friendship. Love” and the Olympics in Sochi, it seems to me, diametrically opposite things. Although, maybe today I just have the mood, tomorrow everything will change for the better.
