Our man in Brooklyn and the new big star of relevant electronics
The Brooklyn musician Slava was born in Moscow under the name Glory Balasanov, but as a child left to conquer America. And so, it seems, he conquered. According to the frequency of mention in the Western press, Glory will give a head start to anyone, not only to the Russian, but also to any other young musician, and his album comes out on the same label with Autre Ne Veut and Onehtrix Point Never. Look at me explains what the success of fame means and how he came to him.

The premiere of the clip on the DIS, the release of the album on the Ford and Lopatin label, the mention in the section "Best New Musicians" on Spin. A simple listing of objective achievements of glory can knock out a tear from any other young Russian musician for whom these sites are important sources of information. But here it is worth making a reservation - calling Slava Russians in the context of music is not quite honest. He left Moscow at 12 years old and not somewhere, but in Chicago-a city that sounds louder than any nostalgia for the house. It was there that he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and at the same time grew up in a musician and artist. The first one gradually began to record his own music and, together with his friends, founded the label Moment Sound Recordings, which seems to still support. About the activity of fame as an artist, you can get an idea, for example, here . |
But in the light of the latest events, it makes sense to speak primarily about music, which at first was more likely an experiment of fame above itself - bizarrely tied (and completely, seemingly heterogeneous) genres played the role of consumables, through the product received from them was too clearly visible by a young producer covered with ambitions. Which, however, did not stop him from lighting up on collections of several remarkable labels (for example, Mathematics Recordings), and most importantly, to gain the appropriate experience and knowledge, with which, sitting in Chicago, it was possible to climb quite highly. Glory decided to move to Brooklyn, and, as it turns out, is not in vain. Often for months, going into studio work with his head, he finally began to shoot full releases. Of the first results are numerous acquaintances in the production environment of New York and laudatory (albeit restrained) reviews on PitchFork , XLR8R and some other important resources. And this story could be closed-a brisk young man is crossed by Juke, Vog and everything else that can be glued to the word “House” and carried with him through the clubs of any, in general, country. The fracture, obviously, occurred when Slava, in addition to successful sound solutions, began to offer media. Simply put, he was really noticed only when he himself came out of the shadows. A couple of photo shoots in the inherent in the mentioned by the futuristic aesthetics, the clip with you in the main role - and meet, as they say, a star. In fact, everything, of course, is more complicated - and the fact that behind every sound and pixel emanating from glory is a job that many local musicians still consider it optional. Among other things, in New York, Glory continued his education and received a master's degree, but in the field no mathematics, but interactive telecommunications-and this explains a lot. And the fact that it was ultimately signed by the Software label, responsible for the most thoughtful electronics of recent years, is not so much luck as a symptom. For example, that the balance between a complex device and a bright appearance does not always rest on the enthusiasm of the latter. |

The RAW Solutions album - the first official longpley of glory, is released on April 23 - primarily a study, the main method of which is the author of the author by the bracket. It cannot be said that SLAVA lives its material in the sense that it is related not only through the sound, but the pretense in this case has only roots with scientificness: Glory is just as optional to merge with the Brooklyn asphalt, as an atomic physicist to feel like a decaying core. The theoretical and technical foundation, thanks to which this departure aside is possible, is present in glory - and in excess. The album sounds as if he had first made it an insanely expensive manicure, and then stuck on the needle under each nail, or vice versa. And he will like the supporters of any of the two methodologies equally. The pain and luxury in Slava music - the phenomena are equally far -fetched and thought out. That is why the album, being essentially a mechanism, speaks human language without an accent. And looking for a dangerous irony here is more expensive, it is much more interesting - to see the image of the inevitable future in this duality and prepare for it properly. |
