| The Russians set a record in mini-football
At the Futsal World Cup in Brazil, the Russian team in its third match of the group stage set a performance record for tournaments of this rank. The Solomon Islands team was defeated with a score of 31:2. Moreover, already in the first half of the meeting, our players managed to upset the opposing goalkeeper exactly 20 times, and left their goal intact. After the break, the Russians relaxed a little and conceded two goals, responding with 11 goals. In the previous round, the main favorites of the championship, the Brazilians, beat the same Solomon Islands with an impressive, but much smaller advantage than our team - 21:0.
Head coach Oleg Ivanov's team broke the South American record at world championships. In 2000, Brazil beat Guatemala 29:2. But the Russians failed to surpass their own figure for the number of goals scored in an official match - they only repeated the record (in the 1990s, Moldova was defeated 31:0). Naturalized Brazilian Pula, who plays for our team, scored nine goals for the islanders, surpassing the scorer achievement of Konstantin Eremenko, who scored seven times in one of the 1992 World Cup matches.
And yet, the Russians were very far from achieving an absolute record of performance in matches of national teams. In 2006, the First Lusophone Games (Lusophony Games) took place in Macau. The very weak East Timor team competed in the mini-football tournament. In the opening round, it lost to Portugal 0:56, and a couple of days later it conceded 20 more goals from the Brazilians - 0:76 (!).
Schumacher and Piepoli caught for doping
The doping revelations of cycling highway masters have not surprised anyone for a long time. However, when it concerns the elite, and especially cases at multi-day Grand Tour races, the public outcry is still wide. The latest representatives of the world peloton to be caught using illegal drugs are Italian Leonardo Piepoli and German Stefan Schumacher. Their positive samples were reported by the French anti-doping laboratory, which further examined blood samples taken during the July Tour de France.
Both athletes are accused of using third-generation erythropoietin (EPO). On the Great Loop, Piepoli won the 10th stage, but the Tour did not finish, as the Saulnier Duval team withdrew after the doping revelations of his teammate Riccardo Ricco. After winning the fourth stage, Schumacher took possession of the yellow jersey of the leader of the general classification for a couple of days. The German also achieved victory on the penultimate day of the Tour, confidently winning the 53-kilometer time trial.
The reaction of the German Cycling Federation to the positive doping test of Schumacher, one of the country's strongest riders today, was immediate. The athlete will face at least a two-year disqualification, and he will probably be banned forever from competing for the national team at the World Championships. The Federation is also going to demand monetary compensation from Schumacher for causing moral damage to the image of this organization.
