| Goznak and the Central Bank launched new banknotes into circulation Russian “wooden” rubles will eventually become rag rubles. Recently, the Central Bank launched new banknotes into circulation, which are made of pure cotton to prevent rapid wear. However, it is not only the material that has changed in banknotes.
Back in the spring, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and Goznak announced unique security technologies that would put the Russian ruble on a par with the most secure currencies in the world, which include, for example, the euro and the Swiss franc. And which, according to the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Arnold Voylukov, does not include American dollars. “The modified notes, in our estimation, are slightly larger than the US dollar,” he said. The number of security levels for new Russian banknotes, according to Goznak specialists, has increased from 22 to 26. Both our own patented developments and international experience have been used. Goznak’s own ideas include the so-called “moiré field” on the front side of banknotes of 50, 100, 500 and 1000 rubles, which changes color depending on the viewing angle to red, pink, green, brown. The “diving thread” and perforation came from European experience. A 2mm wide metallic silver ribbon will emerge from the surface of the banknote five times. When exposed to light, the dotted line transforms into a solid dark stripe. And large bills (100, 500 and 1000 rubles)... will be composted. Laser perforation will allow you to see the denomination of the banknote in the light or feel it with your fingers.
Despite the fact that the official date for the entry into circulation of modified banknotes is August 16, Mr. Voylukov considers this date “formal.” In reality, citizens will be able to hold new money in their hands no earlier than September. According to him, now in the Russian regions there is still a sufficient three-month supply of old-style cash, which, according to the established procedure, is delivered to local vaults by the Bank of Russia, and it will only be depleted by the fall. This mandatory reserve will be replenished with new money. However, Arnold Voylukov has already named the region whose residents will be the first to feel the perforation on the hundred-ruble ruble. According to him, shift workers in the Tyumen region will be the first to receive wages in cotton banknotes.
As Mr. Voylukov assured, no one-time and forced exchange is planned. It is expected that complete replacement of banknotes currently in circulation with modified ones will occur within several years.
Now Goznak factories print banknotes in denominations from 10 to 1000 rubles. By next fall, a 5,000 ruble banknote may be added to them. Her sketches are still kept strictly confidential. What is known is that the city to which the drawing on the new banknote will be dedicated is located in Siberia. Irina BELASHEVA |
