The Russian Basketball Federation faces a fine
The Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) may be fined up to 30 thousand euros in connection with the refusal of the CSKA women's team to play in the Euroleague, the All Sport agency reports, citing a statement by the public relations manager of the International Federation of Basketball Associations (FIBA) in Europe by Sakis Kontos. According to Kontos, FIBA Europe has already informed all interested parties that the capital's women's army club has withdrawn from the EuroLeague Women's competition due to financial problems. At the time of withdrawal from the tournament, CSKA had won 10 points - four wins and two defeats - in Group B. The results of all games involving CSKA have been cancelled, and accordingly the position of the teams in the group will also be reviewed. Regarding sanctions against the club or national federation, no decisions have been made yet. However, according to the rules of FIBA European club tournaments, in case of refusal to participate in the competition after the draw, the entry fee will not be returned to the club; a fine of up to 30 thousand euros is imposed on the national federation; and another team may take the club’s place in the tournament.
Uspensky faces a second operation
Russian figure skater Alexander Uspensky will undergo a second operation on his leg. This can partly explain his unsuccessful performance at the recent Moscow Grand Prix, where he took 10th place. According to the athlete’s coach Marina Kudryavtseva, her student began the season after surgery on one leg, and will soon have surgery on the other leg. “The fact that at many competitions we do not have a massage therapist or a doctor, because there is no financial opportunity for this, is a well-known fact. But the main reason, in my opinion, is that the rules of figure skating have become more complicated, and if earlier a skater had the opportunity to rest on rotations, during step sequences, now he is forced to give his best all the time while his program lasts, and this tension leads to injury. In addition, many problems arise due to low-quality equipment. For example, Sasha Uspensky’s injury was caused by skates. Companies supply us with such bad skate boots that our feet become deformed as a result. This season, Sasha switched to different skates, but since the process has already started, now he will have a second operation,” said Marina Kudryavtseva. Prepared by Olga ERMOLINA, Ilya TRISVIATSKY
