“Until musicians start playing really cool and there's some drummer who can bang faster than a Singer sewing machine, it's all bullshit.” - Alternative Press.
“Agoraphobic Nosebleed took the ripping grind of early Napalm Death and gave it a new twist using rudimentary technology... this band plays truly merciless music,” KNAC com.
When the guys recovered from their frustration over the lack of decent drummers in Massachusetts, Scot Hull and friends formed Agoraphobic Nosebleed at the end of 1994, adding a drum machine. Many artists, like Godflesh and Ministry, have already used “dead” drums in their industrial sketches, but no one has been able to accelerate the drum kit as much as Scott Hull did. Listening to Agoraphobic Nosebleed records is like being under constant artillery fire with only an umbrella for protection. The listener has only one way out - death.
Since 1994, ANB has gone through many lineup changes. It alternated between members of Ulcer, Enemy Soil, Thug and other lesser known bands. Finally, all this gimmick degenerated into a magnificent duet of vocalist Jay Randall and guitarist/bassist (and part-time drum machine manager) Scott Hull. Agoraphobic Nosebleed began producing tons of splits of all kinds with respected veterans of the underground scene such as Benumb, Converge, Cattlepress, Laceration...
In February 1998, ANB released their debut album, Honkey Reduction, on Relapse Records. This piece of music brings together 26 tracks of incredibly manic grind with meaty riffs that will chill you to the bone and excite the mind. Scott Hull had his six-string friends buzzing like rabid wasps while a torrential rain of drums that felt like they were created by a mad professor rained down on the hapless listener like AK-47 rounds. Vocals filled with wild hatred finished off those who still showed signs of life. The response to Honkey Reduction was overwhelmingly positive, with fans and critics around the world praising the relentless extremes that the band unleashed upon them.
In late 1999, Agoraphobic Nosebleed released PCP Torpedo (Hydra Head), which is ready to blow your mind, released in six-inch slab o'wax format. Relapse proposed the idea of a split with Converge, and “The Proacher Diaries” was born. Evil devils concocted nine Molotov cocktail-like songs that brought the creativity of the speedy Yankees to the ears of listeners around the world. Scott Hull's guitar was rampant on the album, paired with destroying drums and a brutal vocal whirlwind. The CD was well received, and it was followed by collaboration on a new split with the Benumb team, which soon became an indispensable attribute of any music collection.
When recording new material, ANB made their music heavier, and for this they needed new members. The group doubled in size with the addition of Richard Johnson (Enemy Soil) and CA Schultz (Prosthetic Cunt). The new work took a step forward both musically and conceptually. The musicians hoped that their next creation would make the listener think at the most primitive level, and they undoubtedly succeeded.
Almost 3 and a half years of waiting - and now the new album is ready! In 2002, the renewed team released what everyone was looking forward to: “Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope.” An overwhelming outburst of emotions, disregarding all the previous ideals of the good old grind, the band’s fresh creation instantly became the most discussed album in recent times. The band has been featured in numerous publications: Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, Kerrang!, Terrorozer, Washington City Paper, CMJ and many others. Evil, kick the crap out of you, drum attacks, chilling vocals and piranha-biting guitar parts - that’s what “Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope” is all about. Perhaps the best description of the work was given by its creator, J. Randall: “Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope is like shooting the Earache catalog with all the crap they put out with a semi-automatic weapon.” Aaron Turner's (ISIS) complex, but somewhat obtuse design work on the disc added to the surrealism of the album.
While the memory of “Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope” was still fresh, the guys split with the relapsing Halo, giving grindcore fans a real battle of extreme sports. Immediately after him, the group began to implement a new, absolutely incredible work. An abundance of amazing ideas gave birth to “Altered States Of America”, a hundred-track album released in a limited edition. The release date of perhaps ANB's most ambitious project was set for April 1, 2003. Truly inhuman music that demonstrated absolute disrespect for the listener is ready to break the nerves of anyone who dares to insert the disc with “Altered States Of America” into the player. Chord by chord, beat by beat, ANB unleashes its full arsenal of amazing guitar work, experimental noise and automatic drumming, while brutal vocals throw you under constant fire.
