OBEY

You may not know who Shepard Fairey is , but you probably saw his work on the corner of your or neighboring street or somewhere else. Its iconic images are located around the world - in the form of stickers, posters and stencils, which can be seen on everything, from electrical panels and walls in alleys to advertising shields. Fayry found his style in the early years. The main thing that influenced him was skateboarding and initially, all his images were connected with the undergrand with a skate move. His passion for music, which inspired him on graphics, he showed on the covers rock, punk and hip-hop albums. Then, in college, he began to get involved in various, often absolutely opposite things and his work began to reflect not only a youth protest, but also everything that happens in the world.
In 1989, in Charleston, South Carolina, Shepard, the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design , where he studied illustrations and discovered Screen-Printing (stencil printing). In the same year, he accidentally stumbled upon the image of Andre the Giant (known in early 1990 Wrestler Andre Giant) in the newspaper. His friend taught how to properly use a stencil on the example of a fighter's face. A friend did not like this picture, but Shepard all the time said: “What are you talking about! The image of Andre is a new business, this is a masterpiece. ”

Involuntarily, this moment gave birth to Obey brand. The original rude, Xerorx copy of Andre the Giant outgrown into the world recognition of Shepard’s work, along with his own company and branded clothes .
OBEY clothes were launched in 2001, when Shepard realized that you can be creative at different levels and that you can also draw on t -shirts as on canvases. Working closely with fashion designers, such as Mike TernoSky and Erin Wignall, Shepard invested his philosophy of creativity and personal influence in the brand, which the genres of genres in his clothes telled us. Each season, various topics and ideas create a style, which is often difficult to somehow classify.
In 2003, Fayry opened his “Studio No 1” . Shepard’s commercial work includes such points as a poster for Johnny Cash (Johnny Cache, a well -known American singer and composer) “Walk The Line”, a recently released album with “Led Zeppelin” hits called “Mothership”, Adidas “Muhammad Ali” Limited Project along with joint work with Fuju Bikes and Public Enemy .

Although he is invited to create marketing plans, he always finds the time for personal work of his customers. It is easy to see that in the world of Shepard the line between subtle art, commercial art and street art is erased, but the style is clearly visible, which is the synonymous of Obey!
2007 was marked by a vivid moment in the career of the visual arts of Shepard. He represented his galleries around the world in places such as: Tokyo, Sydney, Paris and Hong Kong. During his last two shows in London and Los -Angeles in the fall of 2007, all his work was sold out on the opening of the night. Shepard shows and uses his work in different styles including drawing, stencils, posters and collage execution. His works change the habitat and size, some of his works reached 15 feet.

Millions of people on the streets around the world look at Shepard's work every day. He never stops, achieving success, always continues to develop. “I never hope that I will order the works that I did before, I always try to create something new, even if it reminds my old work, I do not lose novelty and is always ready to accept the challenge!” Be sure to look at his last collection of clothing, which included several collaborations with the famous world brands and characters. We will talk about some of them.

Later, Chuinard became the founder of Patagonia , which produces clothing for outdoor activities, and Tompkins opened the North Face .
