On March 27, ice blasting work began on the Tom River.
The first of the planned explosions took place near the new communal bridge. Since seven o'clock in the morning, Tomsk rescue services have been drilling holes and planting explosives.
According to the chairman of the emergency committee of the regional administration, Valery Uymanov, these measures are necessary so that the massive ice fields crack.
“If there are cracks, water will tear them apart at any moment. March is already ending. In past years, streams were actively running on these days and grass was peeking out here and there. And today we have sub-zero temperatures both day and night. The most difficult thing is that the reserves of snow are very large and the water content in it is also large. We are preparing for the worst case scenario,” noted Valery Uymanov.
About 5 million rubles will be spent on ice blasting this year. Valery Uymanov added that all preventive measures should minimize the threat of flooding of populated areas.
Let us remind you that tomorrow the ice will be blown up in the area of building No. 6 of TSU on the Moscow highway. On March 29, ice blasting work will continue on the Svetlaya channel and on the main channel of the Tom River near the village of Baturino.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Tomsk Region asks residents of adjacent territories, heads of enterprises and organizations not to be alarmed when they hear characteristic pops, and to take precautions. Fishermen should refrain from going out on the ice in this area.
