Who is she - Masha Era?
Masha Era is a lyrical character, in my life I often feel her presence, but as if I do not dare to reveal her in myself, on stage she prevails.
How is your project unique?
He differs from a purely musical project in that he became spontaneously “musical-sand”. It all started with the creation of several video installations, the key and main of which was the work-“non-exploration” (“Non-existence”). The image of a girl-girl, singing the French lullaby about the loss of the human soul-the image of a nostalgic, periodically arising in my life as a children's sleep, premonition or not fully recognized, but tangible dreams. The children's song "Au Claire de La Lune" ("In the light of the Moon"), which I heard in France, most accurately reflects the mood of my "nothingness". I translated it into Russian - so I understood its meaning:
In the light of the moon, my friend Pierrot, open the doors to me, open the window, my candle went out, give me a little fire, God's love heated me ...

Such a touching nursery lullaby with non -childish meaning. For the first time I performed the number of Masha Era “Non-Existence” in 2003, I sang a fragment of the song in a completely unexpected atmosphere of the night club, silence formed for a few seconds in the hall ... Later it poured out in the creation of the Masha Era “Non-Existence” video installation, where the girl-doll in the black cube, swinging in no vascularity, He sings in a detached manner a lullaby of the human soul. For her, the original musical composition "Non-Existence" was recorded, which now sounds in our program.
At first, the creation of video works, experiments with modern technologies in cinema, music, plastic, and theater were more fascinated. Support and cooperation by the very talented, in my opinion, musician, Ilya Shapovalov, featured me to create my own songs. Later, the Masha Era “non-expistence” musical program appeared, where every track is a story told with the help of music, text, interactive video, experimental decorations, theatrical techniques on the stage.
Is your music born in improvisation?
I do not specifically compose anything, all the more I do not consider this to be my work, the topic is born spontaneously, quickly and easily, but its embodiment in music, on stage - painstaking work.
How important are the lyrics?
It is very important, these are stories, real plots, everything that I experienced and learned in life, so I approach the writing of texts carefully, I really want the listener to understand the plan.
I would not want to create more tracks in French?
I wanted to. And there are sketches of songs in French. I really love this language, its sensuality, nuances. Sometimes it happens that some meaning or emotion can be expressed only in French, since it is highlighted and fixed there. So with Russian and English: it is helped by the variety of languages.
What three key emotions does your music convey?
Bright sadness, nostalgia about not committed, the victorious self -affirmation of life - side by side in every song.
How do your work combine the past, present and future in your work?
Masha Era "non-expistance" is the refraction of the past, present and future in one moment: a foreboding of life, expressed in a nursery, which humbles our fears, anxiety, vanity and disharmony and lies our children's dreams and desires. The installation of "Non-Existence" we begin our program and end it.
What scenery are usually used to design a scene?
In short, then this, the use of several screens, including the banner, combination of video and real items on stage, makeup, costumes.
And who is engaged in the creation of costumes, are they obviously sewn to order?
I come up with images and makeup myself, I do many things manually. Sometimes artists help me to embody in fabrics. I want to note that a unique cost for the video of the Masha Era "Non-Existence" was helped by St. Petersburg artists Anna Pereushinina and Andrey Sedov.
What is the task of the video?
Create the original world, mood, show in "cinematic" paints on stage. The black and white color speaks not only about the dualism of the bright and dark beginning, but also emphasizes the reality of what happened once-a kind of cinema effect. In some songs, the video is an independent subject of what is happening and enters with a real character in a dialogue.
Who creates a video sequence?
I was very lucky to meet Ilya, he is a unique person with applied knowledge in different fields, with him we realize ideas of different complexity. I also managed to attract the French artist Ann Vanrech to cooperation, she made a light video of the panel for our program according to her original technology.
How difficult is it to prepare the site for the performance?
We “made” our program in different places, in clubs, galleries, and completely unsuitable sites for performance. There is always technical complexity, the organizers perceive us as a purely musical project and do not always pay attention to specific details in the rider. So far, we have to do almost everything close to the concert ourselves. At festivals, each time we think over the original option that does not require a long installation, but this is difficult.
What are the groups for the publication of the material and its distribution?
We had and have proposals from Russian and some foreign manufacturing companies. In 2008, Vinille was released with the ICE Touch track on the label of Anton Kubikov and Maxim Milyutenko Pro-Tez with the distribution of the German Kompakt. Our songs support a number of foreign Internet radio stations and companies that produce electronic music. We also consider the album album alternative.
