This prize is the largest independent national project in the field of contemporary art in Russia. Central House of Artists , until October 13.
Nikita Alekseev. Impressions. The Impressions cycle is divided into three sections: “Impressions from color” (ten canvases using black, gray, white and spectral colors), “Impressions from places and events” (59 canvases), “Impressions from impressions” (49 canvases made under impression of what impressions people have about Alekseev’s art, whose opinion is important and interesting to him, and supplied with texts written by these people at the artist’s request). The exhibition also shows the album “Places Where I Have Never Been and I’m Unlikely to Be,” published in an edition of 17 numbered and signed copies, and the book-suitcase “Aachen-Yakhroma” (360 pages of text on digital media, 617 original drawings) . GMG Gallery (Leontyevsky Lane, 2A/1), until October 25.
"Roger Ballen: Documentary Fiction." An exhibition of works by one of the most extravagant living classics of photography. He calls his works documentary fiction - an organic fusion of documentary, symbolism and abstract aesthetics. The “Furnished Rooms” series exhibited in Moscow is the fruit of almost five years of Ballen’s research into the very bottom of life, both in the everyday sense (in the frame the interiors of a real rooming house in the suburbs of Johannesburg and its inhabitants: fugitive criminals, bankrupt gold miners, various asocial types), and in an existential sense. The photographer claims that working on the series confronted him with such dark sides of his own consciousness, the existence of which he had never previously suspected. These photographs, being technically staged, speak about life and the fractures of human destinies and psyches more than any “direct” documentation. “Winzavod”, Bottling Shop , (4th Syromyatnichesky Lane, Building 1, Building 6), until November 28.
Gor Chahal. "Bread of Heaven" In a project made specifically for the Tretyakov Gallery, the famous Moscow “current” artist Gor Chahal (born 1961) shares his experience of talking about the sacred in the language of contemporary art. Liturgy, divine energies, Favorian light, the space of the icon are the themes of his works. In particular, the artist managed to implement the principle of reverse perspective, used in ancient icon painting, by means of photography. Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val , until March 20.
