| Spain set a record
Football. Confederations Cup. Group "A". Spain - South Africa - 2:0, Iraq - New Zealand - 0:0. Team standings: Spain - 9 points, South Africa - 4, Iraq - 2, New Zealand - 1.
The Spanish national team became the owner of a new record for national teams in the number of victories won. The win against South Africa was the 15th in a row for the European champions, and according to this indicator, the Spaniards, who have not lost since November 2006, surpassed the achievements of the national teams of Australia, Brazil and France.
But even after losing to Spain, the South Africans booked their place in the semi-finals. The hosts of the Confederations Cup were helped by the New Zealand team, which took two points from the Iraqi team. This draw cost Iraqi coach Bora Milutinovic his job as head coach. The Serbian was hired a month ago just for the Confederations Cup, and even though his team lost only one match, the agreement with the coach was not renewed.

Football. European Championship among youth teams. Group "A". Belarus - Serbia - 0:0, Sweden - Italy - 1:2. Team position: Italy - 4 points, Sweden - 3, Serbia - 2, Belarus - 1. Group “B”. Germany - Finland - 2:0, Spain - England - 0:2. Team standings: England - 6, Germany - 4, Spain - 1, Finland - 0.
The England youth team was the first to secure a place in the semi-finals of the continental championship. In the "group of death" Stuart Pearce's team won the second match in a row: after Finland they defeated Spain - 2:0. In turn, the Spaniards will now only be saved by a miracle. Not only will they need to beat a fairly strong Finnish team with a big score in the final round of the group stage, but the Germans will also need to lose to the British.
In Group A, none of the teams have yet lost their chances of reaching the playoffs. Although the Belarusian team has to rely only on a happy coincidence of circumstances and try with all its might to beat the tournament favorites, the Italian team led by its leader Sebastian Giovinco.
Tursunov won in Eastbourne
Russian tennis player Dmitry Tursunov won the tournament in Eastbourne. In the final he defeated Canadian Frank Dantsevich - 6:3, 7:6 (7:5). This title was the sixth in the Russian’s career and, without a doubt, will give him confidence at Wimbledon, since the competition was held on grass courts.
Nevertheless, Tursunov is still worried about injuries. “Right now I’m experiencing pain in my leg, in the tendon area,” said the tennis player. Despite the problem, Tursunov confirmed his intention to compete in the third Grand Slam tournament of the season. “Even if I’m on crutches, I’ll still go on the court at Wimbledon,” he commented.
Meanwhile, the first racket of the world, Spaniard Rafael Nadal, will miss Wimbledon. At a special press conference, he announced that he had not been able to fully heal his knee injuries. His place in the tournament bracket will be taken by Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro.
The leader of the world women's ranking, Russian Dinara Safina, failed to make it to the final of the tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch, losing in the semifinals to Tamarin Tanasugarn from Thailand - 5:7, 5:7.
Ovechkin named best NHL player
Washington's Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin was recognized as the best NHL player for the second year in a row following the results of the past season. At the ceremony, which took place in Las Vegas, the Russian was awarded the Hart Trophy, which is awarded based on a vote of professional journalists writing about hockey. In addition to this prize, Ovechkin was awarded another Lester Pearson Trophy as the most valuable player in the NHL after the voting results of representatives of the Professional Hockey Players Association of the league were summed up.
The prizes were presented to the Russian by the famous Russian hockey player Vladimir Konstantinov, who made his first public appearance without a wheelchair. Let us recall that several years ago Konstantinov was in a car accident, after which he received serious injuries.
Another Russian, 2009 Stanley Cup winner Evgeni Malkin, who plays for Pittsburgh, also earned two prizes - the Art Ross Trophy as the best sniper in the regular season and the Conn Smith Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs.
