On December 7, a renovated ski slope opened in Academgorodok, where lighting was restored and new sound equipment was installed.
For ski lovers, the Metelitsa base now has three illuminated courses, 1, 2 and 3 km long.
“We live in Akademgorodok, we train here. This is certainly a good ski slope. It was made for athletes, made with good descents and ascents,” Alexey Sokolov, a physical education teacher at the Academic Lyceum, told Rush Hour reporters.
At the grand opening of the track, a ski race was organized with the participation of pupils of Tomsk sports schools, instructors, sports veterans and everyone.
“Always remember that for us skiing is the best vaccination for health,” said the head of the region, Sergei Zhvachkin, who took part in the event.
Tomsk Mayor Ivan Klein noted that the new track lighting is only the first step towards updating the ski base in Akademgorodok.
“We are planning to make paths here that will be like a ski track in winter, and in summer skiers on wheels can train and cyclists can ride,” said the city mayor.
Earlier, the director of the regional Olympic training center for cross-country skiing, Natalya Baranova, told the TV2 news agency that Tomsk skiers do not have enough roller ski tracks.
Let us remind you that 7 years ago the city administration made an illuminated ski track here, 3 kilometers long. But I didn’t transfer it to anyone for balance. Two years ago there was a break in the wires and there was no lighting. Previously, the route was serviced by Gorsvet, but when the company was disbanded, it turned out to be ownerless. The mayor of Tomsk took control of the lighting situation. 110 supports for lights and 40 speakers were installed on the track.
