Ivan Volkov

Believing that people stopped gravitating towards the beautiful, photographer, designer and director Ivan Volkov still seek to convey the beauty of the world to the masses.

When did you realize that your life will be connected with creativity?

I tried a lot to understand that I want to make a movie. In 1993, while in a children's camp, I got into a photo circle. Then he first picked up the camera. I liked this feeling, but development in this area followed much later. A few years later I got carried away with sound engineering and music. It didn’t work out with music. I realized that this is not my element, although I acquired a lot of knowledge. In parallel, I watched a lot of films and even kept them account. The film industry attracted me greatly, and I clearly understood that this is exactly what I want to do. Today I perceive my passion for photography as a necessary warm -up, then to correctly handle a movie camera.

What is success for you?

This is a passing thing. Today is, no tomorrow. The essence of success is not in money and not in the number of comments. Success is pride in your work, because you did exactly what you wanted. I am proud, but not much, because I do a lot of misses, and I have not yet taken off that very work ...

Is the opinion of photo kritics important to you?

Now for each photographer there will be on photo chartics. And as well as few professional photographers, few good photographic artists. As for me, one comment is better, where it is written “shit” under good work than a hundred with the word “cool” under a dull shit.

Whose opinion is decisive to you?

The opinion of the one who does not seek the flaw and understands what I wanted to convey. Friends, good friends, my girlfriend and mother rarely, but correctly understand and express an opinion. These are not always good reviews, but I put them in a chest. I can’t help but mention Grigory Kuzmin and Igor Voruchnikov, with whom I spend long hours, analyzing my own mistakes.

Are there any work in your archive that I would like to change?

There is always what you want to change, but it makes no sense to return to the past. This is the completed stage and he needs to be grateful, and not try to do better than he is. You will grow, like your gaze with each frame and with every heart blow.

What can inspire you?

Everything where there is life, there is no game and falsehood.

How can you describe the style of your work?

Documentaryism.

Describe your state of mind at the time of shooting?

Always different. Depends on what I remove. I’ll compare myself with a hunter: I’m trying to catch the same frame, and when I catch, I get an incomparable pleasure. The most interesting thing is to remove the extreme when you instill in the body doing a trick for a couple of seconds. This is impossible to describe, it can only be felt.

How do you manage to make a person feel free and show your moods in front of the camera?

The first is my openness, the second is a conversation. Each time you must communicate and set a person to the right wave. Sometimes it takes a lot of time. The last shooting with a beautiful girl Polina lasted 12 hours. All this time we walked, laughed, but somehow everything turned out in the photographs, but at sunset we suddenly understood what to do and received three successful pictures. It is more often faster. The main thing is to show a person that you are not dangerous and sincere to him and to what you are doing.

How do you feel about the phrase “Beauty will save the world”?

The world will save respect and understanding, and beauty ... For the most part, people ceased to pay attention to it, they are more important for them, they rarely look at heaven and stars, and even more often they notice something really valuable. We do not think when we throw garbage in the forest or in the city, we live on the principle of "after us at least a flood." Therefore, beauty will not save anything, but a person can!

How do you imagine the ideal of beauty?

It definitely should not have silicone, bootx and other foreign rubbish. My ideal is what is created by nature. In general, it is important to understand that there are no ideal ones, everyone has acne and bruises.

The main feature of your character?

Laziness and stubbornness.

Will you share your plans for the future?

Gather a good team and open the studio, launch several projects in the extreme sphere of Street Union, The Outer Limits, WC Project, remove several clips, open the store. This is all for the near future. And if we talk about the future of the distant, I would like to raise the Russian film market to a decent level and try to convey to people the beauty and value of the surrounding world.
