Many Gmail users are faced with oddities. Experts suspect a mass hack

The Kaspersky Laborated a preliminary investigation of cases of the Gmail service in the last days in recent days of hacking the Gail service and the uncontrolled newsletter of spam.

Spam is sent to addresses found in the Contacts of the Contacts of the victim's account. The topic of messages is not indicated, and in the body of the letters only a link to a certain Internet application in the .co.cc zone is given.

Copies of letters are stored in the "Sent" folder, sometimes they can be found in the "basket". Some letters do not reach the addressee and settled in the form of notifications about the shortage in the “incoming” folder, the LC report said.

It turned out that the spammers each time connected to someone else's account through a mobile interface and, most likely, used bots. IP addresses from which unauthorized inputs were carried out are scattered around the world: the USA, Western Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa ...

It is noteworthy that the attackers only used the contacts of their victims to send spam. They did not change passwords to the mailboxes, did not remove the records from the address book or letters from folders.

It is not yet clear what unites all the victims. The current accounts were hacked, and those that the owners have long ceased to use. The reliability of the password and the presence/variety of antivirus, apparently, also do not play any role.

Most computers did not find any malware. All victims are different platforms: XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Mac OS, Linux with different versions and combinations of browsers IE, Firefox, Opera, Chrome.

The number of hacked accounts is not determined. Google is still silent and, according to rumors, conducts an investigation. All users of the Gmail Counting Experts "LC" recommend checking the report on the latest cases of using the account, change passwords, reset authorization on all computers and do not forget to leave the mail at the end of the session.
