| The Fellowship of the Ring's journey comes to an end The final part of Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the film "The Return of the King", whose worldwide box office receipts have already exceeded half a billion dollars, has made another leap towards Oscar triumph, which none of the analysts seems to doubt. It was awarded the prestigious American Film Critics' Choice Award in four categories, including best film of the year. In addition, it is almost certain that American film critics will be supported by their foreign colleagues, and “The Return of the King” will “cash in” four nominations for the Golden Globe (the prestigious, second most important American film award after the Oscar, presented by foreign journalists accredited to Hollywood) : Jackson's film is up for four awards in the categories of Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director, Best Composer (Howard Shore) and Best Song (Into the West, written by Shore and Francis Walsh, who (performed by Annie Lennox) In the past two years, the films “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Two Towers” (film adaptations of the first two parts of Tolkien’s epic) received mostly minor “technical” prizes for the best special and sound effects, but now it is already quite obvious: this year the titanic work of Jackson and his team, who created the most impressive film epic of the beginning of the new century, will be appreciated. And when at the ceremony of the American Film Academy the treasured envelope is finally opened, instead of the usual and the winner is... the treasured one will be heard: “And one thing - omnipotent - to the ruler of Mordor. To separate them all, to deprive them of their will and unite them forever in their earthly vale under the omnipotent rule of the Lord of Mordor.” Gleb MYSHKIN |
