“Weekly Magazine” changes its editor and merges with “Business Chronicle”
The publishing house "Ostrov", which unites the magazines "Business Chronicle" and "Weekly Journal", has undergone serious changes. The editor-in-chief of the Weekly Journal (EZh) Sergei Parkhomenko resigned. His first deputy, Masha Lipman, also leaves with him. Sergei Parkhomenko will be replaced as editor-in-chief of EZh by Mikhail Berger, who until then was the editor-in-chief of the weekly business magazine Delovaya Chronika. Its last issue was published on February 10. It is assumed that Anna Narinskaya, who headed the “Thing” magazine, will become the publisher of the “Weekly Magazine”. The magazine “Business Chronicle” itself is ceasing to exist; the editorial offices of “Weekly Journal” and “Business Chronicle” will be merged, and with losses in the editorial staff. “Two editorial offices are merging, and with losses. This is a difficult and unpleasant reality, but this is exactly the situation,” said the new editor of EZh, Mikhail Berger.
As Sergei Parkhomenko told a Vremya Novostei newspaper correspondent, his resignation is related to the “interests of the case.” “My resignation is primarily related to the interests of the business. It was my own initiative, a well-thought-out and balanced decision. I believe that the reforms that are coming to both the magazine and the editorial office will be very significant,” he said, emphasizing that his resignation is not directly related to the political processes taking place in Russian society. “I sincerely hope that “EZh” will become more perfect, more in line with the needs of the reader, more modern,” he emphasized.
According to Sergei Parkhomenko, his future plans are not yet clear. “I don’t have any plans yet. I have formed plans, and I strive to implement these plans,” he said.
According to the new editor-in-chief of EZh, Mikhail Berger, the magazine in the future should become “an attractive market product.” “He should appeal not only to journalists and those readers he has, but also to an even larger circle. We must expand it and keep it in the market for quality market press,” he said.
