| The high-profile story of the abduction of the half-month-old son of Nizhny Novgorod policeman Alexander Petushkov received an unexpected outcome. On Tuesday, all the special services of Nizhny Novgorod were sent to search for two kidnappers of a baby - a man and a woman. According to the wife of senior lieutenant Petushkov Galina, she herself opened the door to the criminals, who introduced themselves as employees of a children's clinic. The head of the family was not at home at that moment. Galina Petushkova said that the kidnappers took her child away from her and disappeared, leaving a final message: “Get your money ready.” Based on descriptions from the mother of two-week-old Dima, the police compiled sketches of the suspects. On Tuesday around noon, the body of a baby similar to the missing Dima Petushkov was found on the banks of the Grebnoy Canal in Nizhny Novgorod. The very next day, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Volga District, Viktor Bratanov, stated that there had been no abduction. The chilling story about the kidnappers was invented by the child’s mother in order to avert suspicions about the baby’s death. As investigators found out, the baby was left unattended by his mother and suffocated between two pillows. Galina Petushkova did not call an ambulance, but instead drowned the corpse of her own son not far from her house. She told investigators that she was afraid of responsibility to her husband. Alexander Petushkov, who heads the investigation department of the police department for the protection of GAZ, really did not know the true reason for the disappearance of his son, believing in the story of the abduction. From the very beginning, the Nizhny Novgorod Central Internal Affairs Directorate, contrary to custom, thoroughly informed journalists about the details of the incident. Perhaps this is due to the fact that already the first testimony of Galina Petushkova raised doubts, and the truth was revealed quite quickly. Investigators probably noticed that none of the Petushkovs’ neighbors saw the kidnappers, and the criminals themselves did not even name the ransom amount. The day before it became known that a criminal case under the article of kidnapping was never initiated. Now the main version of the death of little Dima Petushkov is an accident.
