| More than two months ago, Google offered its users the opportunity to create their own search engine home page design on their computer. To do this, it is proposed to use several unique graphic themes, including various design elements and developed by professional designers. The collection of virtual “clothes” continues to be updated, although most Google fans prefer to see the main page as ascetically white, without decorations or frills.
In two and a half months, the “Themes from Artists” section (this is the name of the collection of author’s designs on Google) acquired a considerable number of fans around the world. The section can be replenished with both the developments of famous people and the art of ordinary users. It must be said that it is the works of unknown artists that are most popular. For example, the design from British programmer Sterly Yudel, in which he used photographs of the Earth from space, is used on their computers by more than 900 thousand people. “The theme fully reflects the work of the search engine in terms of volume and quality,” is the comment of one of the users.
The leader among the works created under well-known brands is the design from the company Dolce&Gabbana, which managed to conquer just over 200 thousand users with its fur design (the image of a leopard skin is used in the page design).
American designer Mark Ekko, known for his passion for hip-hop culture and street style, used his favorite motifs in his Google themes: graffiti, comics, and attributes of the hip-hop community. More than 170 thousand users chose the Ekko style.
The third most popular theme from the artists was the design from the English rock band Radiohead. The musicians' design, which features bright splashes of paint on a dark background, is used by about 136 thousand people. And this despite the fact that Radiohead presented his creation quite recently.
The collection of celebrity themes is constantly growing. Recently, Celine Dion, Bob Dylan and Gucci designers provided their work for Google.
Nowadays, themes from artists make up a small part of the variety of styles that exists on the site. In total, users are offered more than 1,200 different designs, and there will be even more in the near future. Google has posted detailed instructions on how to create your own virtual “clothes.”
But despite the large selection, the vast majority of users still prefer the classic design of the home page, or rather, its absence. More than 75 million people use Google's no-design design. After all, Google is nothing more than a technology. Therefore, functionality is more important to the user than the aesthetics of the site.
