Dazed & confused, ID, V Magazine are full of his photo works and at the same time he removes a lot for the Russian Vogue, the last work is the cover of the October number. The swearing but the rising star of fashion photography, Irwin removes in a new way: quickly, simply, without visible effects, often even without stationary light. However, this insistence more than compensates for his exact look, which accurately grabs the best angles, facial expressions and mood. Matt Irwin tells Daria Shapovalova about his dreams, impressions of Russian fashion and favorite models.

Do you remember your first photo shoot?
Yes, I think I remember! Then I have not lived in London yet. I took pictures of friends in their own clothes-so it was not the “right” fashion-stry, but simply pictures of friends. When I moved to the capital, I was shooting for Christopher Kane, who then just founded his brand. For Dazed & Confosed. This was my first fashion filming.

You work quite a lot with Vogue, especially with Russian, in particular, you made the cover of the October number. What is the difference between work for Dazed & Confosed and Vogue?
These are two diametrically opposite publications. For Dazed, you can work with what you like, what is inspired at the moment. Vogue is more and more in commercial, they follow the fashion-market. Dazed in turn too, but this publication is guided by the world that is personally close to me. This is my world. I definitely do not live in the world of Vogue.

What do you like in Russian Vogue?
He is beautiful, first of all, with his splendor. He is all so licked and steep. I have been to Russia, and this is not the best place on Earth. Perhaps that is why the magazine is so pompous, and everything is so expensive there. In Russian Vogue, you can often see furs, diamonds, large hats, abundant makeup, complex hairstyles and all that. Probably, the children imagine fashion.

Who are your favorite models?
I like Lara Stone. It seems to me that she is beautiful. She looks completely different from the rest of the models. Who else ...

Natasha Paul?
Oh yes, Natasha Poli - she is wonderful! I also like Daria, which I recently shot for Dazed. She is not even a model, but a real person. It is so cool to see such a young girl with such a solid character. At the same time, she is funny and pleasant in communication.

Is she Ukrainian?
Yes. She is like a boy: she walks in jeans, sneakers, t -shirts. She even has a gait, like a guy. She is very cool!

Apparently, you have collected everyone you like in the video for Armani Exchange.
Yes, the main ones in my idea were people. I shot my friends, and it so happened that they were all famous models. I spent only 5 minutes with them, and then mounted everything together. There was no story behind the scenes, there were just people who looked cool and went about their business. I did not want them to play - it would look strange, and I think that in each
Work is important for realism. The stories of people shot in Armani Exchange have already developed. Therefore, I allowed them to do what they wanted.

How can you describe your style in photography?
I don’t even know if I have developed such a clear style. Now I am working on this. We will see how everything will develop. I never had an internship, I did not work as an assistant.
