The Biennial of Young Art will be held in Moscow

Members of the organizing committee shared this news with the press yesterday: Alexander Golutva, Sergei Khudyakov, Vasily Tsereteli, Leonid Bazhanov, Daria Pyrkina, Vera Dazhina. The Biennale is organized by the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (executive director Vasily Tsereteli) together with the State Center for Contemporary Art (NCCA), the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography and the Moscow Department of Culture. NCCA researcher Daria Pyrkina has been invited as curator. For several years, Daria organized the NCCA festival under the same name as the future biennale: “Stop! Who's coming?" It cannot be said that the festival received a huge response even in the context of Russian artistic life. The main problem: the very local significance of the art exhibited there, comparable to the review of course graduates from institutes of cultural studies and other fashionable educational institutions with a non-classical art program. To “Stop! Who's coming?" found a new lease of life, it needed a different format. Now he has been found. According to Vasily Tsereteli, the joint efforts of the NCCA, MMCA, supported by the Federal Agency, the Moscow Department of Culture and foreign institutions, will help take the show of young people to a new level. An impressive part of the budget is planned to be spent on work. Today, the concepts of “expensive art” and “good art” are not hostile to each other. Rather, they are synonymous.

According to Vasily Tsereteli, the fair is designed to cultivate a young generation of artists who are actively integrated into the international artistic context. So that no one feels like a remote province. The first biennale will open on July 1, 2008 and will last a month.
