In Estonia, employers are now forbidden to look on the Internet personal data of the applicant

The Estonian data protection inspectorate forbade employers during hiring to work on the Internet, including on social networks, the applicant’s personal data for a vacant position, Interfax reports.

According to the instructions developed by the inspection, if the employer still wants to check through the World Wide the personal data of the future employee, he will have to warn him in advance, the Estonian press said.

The employer is prohibited and read the correspondence of his employee by e -mail without permission.

“By personal data, the inspection implies all the data that characterizes a person, starting on behalf of. It makes sense to protect these data, because a person does not leave a private life outside the door after coming to work in the morning,” said the head of the Vilillar PEEP data protection inspectorate.

According to the instructions, the employer does not have the right to ask the applicant during an interview about his private life, not related to profile.

The compilers of the instructions proceed from the fact that on the network about a person you can also find false information that can negatively affect when hiring. At the same time, in many countries, employers do not consider it shameful to secretly study the "approaching" applicant for the post on social electronic networks.
