The new head of the Altai Republic, Alexander Berdnikov, who officially assumed this position on Friday, dismissed members of the government of the republic led by the former head of the region, Mikhail Lapshin. The candidacy of Mr. Berdnikov for the post of head of the Altai Republic was submitted to the State Assembly of the region by the President of Russia. On December 22, 2005, deputies of the Altai parliament vested Mr. Berdnikov with the powers of the head of the republic. Deputies of the People's Assembly of Ingushetia adopted a resolution in which they turned to the Chairman of the Russian Government, Mikhail Fradkov, with a request to create a state commission to determine the borders of Ingushetia. Parliamentarians of Ingushetia note that “after the crisis situation in the Chechen Republic has been resolved and all branches of state power have been formed in it in accordance with Russian legislation, there are practically no obstacles to the territorial delimitation of Ingushetia with neighboring entities.”

Almost half of Russians - 46.6% - are afraid of losing their jobs. 50% of our compatriots are confident in the reliability of their work. As noted in the study, respondents with a high level of education fear less for their jobs—more than 60% of them are confident about the future.
