Today, after another reconstruction, the updated “Udarnik ” opens. A remarkable film was chosen for the opening - “Dance with me” by Alexander Buravsky (premiere at 19.00 ). The film is being released widely in Moscow and will be shown simultaneously in six (!) cinemas. How this could happen is unclear. The film is shot in the misunderstanding genre. The Russian director and playwright Buravsky went to Hollywood and made a film with three Oscar winners - Keith Carradine , Mercedes Ruehl and Kim Hunter . Carradine plays a drunken Broadway dancer who comes on tour to Estonia, where he becomes a victim first of the Nazis and then of the Soviet occupiers. There is no point in listing all the stupidities and absurdities of this opus; it is enough to briefly describe the climactic scene: Carradine’s hero, who finds himself in a logging camp, chops off his leg with an ax, crushed by a fallen log. In terms of absurdity, this can only be compared with “Thieves in Law,” where, I remember, the hero sawed off his hand chained to a battery. Have the authors of these paintings heard of such concepts as “painful shock” and “elementary verisimilitude”? For lovers of perestroika cinema and masochistic film buffs, I am announcing the screenings at Udarnik. From Friday to Sunday, “Dance with Me” can be watched at 11.30 , 14.00 , 16.30 , 19.00 , 21.30 and 24.00 (there will be no last show on Sunday).
TV
On Friday, August 18, at 23.00 on the RTR channel, watch the film “Criminal Connections” (USA, 1997). A film about crooked police officers who catch even more disgusting bandits could very well turn out to be just another pass-through piece of work. However, in some incredible way it turned into a real “black film” based on modern material. Directed by Jim Kauf . Starring James Belushi, Tupac Shakur, Dennis Quaid, James Earl Jones .
On the same day at 0.45 on NTV - the classic film “The Canterbury Tales” (Italy - France, 1971). Pier Paolo Pasolini filmed Geoffrey Chaucer in much the same way as The Arabian Nights, The Decameron and the Marquis of De Sade. That is, brilliant. Starring Hugh Griffith, Lorra Betty, Ninetto Davoli, Franco Citti.
On Sunday, August 20, at 13.00 on the NTV channel, watch “Wolf River” (USA, 1970). One of the best films by Howard Hawks , Quentin Tarantino's favorite director. Western, of course. And of course, starring John Wayne . Brave heroes fight back against unleashed civil war veterans.
Theaters
On August 20, watch the play “Doctor Faust” at the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya . This is the first production of the famous tragedy by the English Renaissance playwright Christopher Marlowe on the Russian stage. It was realized by the young director Igor Drevalev . The play contains a lot of medieval symbolism and references to the morality play genre. The main innovation of the play can be considered the performance of the role of Mephistopheles by a charming actress ( Larisa Bogoslovskaya ). Moreover, Faust, performed by Dmitry Tsursky, is clearly not indifferent to this Mephistopheles.

The exhibition is open until October 2 .
The State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia (f. Museum of Revolution, Tverskaya St., 21) invites you to the exhibition "Dates. Events. People. (Pages of history in gifts)." Among the exhibits, many of which are being shown for the first time, are works of painting, sculpture, applied art, as well as folk crafts, original national costumes, weapons from Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The international festival of professional photography "InterFoto 2000" opens on August 24 in the exhibition hall "New Manezh" (Georgievsky Lane, 3/3) , its motto this year is: "Camera Obscura - a metaphor for the relationship between history and photography." Among them are Michael Gray (Fox Talbot Museum, UK), Bodo von Dewitz (AGFA Historama Museum, Germany), Tim Ride (Los Angeles State Museum, USA). The topics of the presentations are the history of photography, its role in manipulating the consciousness of society, falsification of historical realities at the dawn of the development of photojournalism and in modern media. The festival will host round tables, seminars, and master classes with world photography stars with the participation of Bert Glynn (Magnum agency) and Lushen Perkins , director of InterPhoto, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. The photo exhibition will be open until August 26 .
Pop and rock
On August 19, at the Sixteen Ton club at 23.00 there will be a concert of the cult Japanese group Pizzicato Five , playing in the style of easy listening. The trio has been around for over 10 years, but only in the last few years have they achieved recognition. The group performs very interesting music: it is easy to listen to, created using old synthesizers, disco music of the late sixties and samples from trash films. Female vocals. The texts are Japanese. Exotic!
