Formlabs introduced a beautiful and affordable 3D printer for designers, architects and engineers.
The young Boston company Formlabs presented its first development - a small and convenient to use 3D printer, which will cost less than $ 3,000. This can make a real revolution in the market of such printers: before they were mainly used in laboratories and large scientific institutions and cost at least $ 10,000. The new Form 1 printer can create objects up to 60 cm in height, width and length and uses an inexpensive Blu-ray technology, which, however, allows you to “print” very detailed models from plastic. You can make a pre -order onKickstarter .
Formlabs, unlike most recent startups, did not occur in the silicone valley, but in Boston. A group of young programmers from the media laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) founded its own company in 2011 and has been creating a 3D printer convenient for ordinary users. This idea arose just while studying at MIT: the developers were seized by 3D printing opportunities, but at the institute they could use only very complex devices that cost tens of thousands of dollars.
