| Military and police officers did not separate on the Chechen road Five people died on Monday evening in the suburbs of Grozny as a result of a clash between local police and federal soldiers. The cause of the scandalous incident, which escalated into an armed clash, as it turned out, was a cow.
The emergency occurred on Monday evening, when a column of Russian troops of ten vehicles was moving along the federal road from Grozny. Not far from the village of Berkat-Yurt, Grozny district, the path of one of the cars was blocked by cows that came onto the road, and the lead car of the column ran into one of them. The military nevertheless continued on their way. However, several indignant villagers who were present at the incident went in cars after the convoy, overtook it and blocked the road, demanding that the soldiers reimburse the cost of the dead cow. The villagers also asked the police squad guarding one of the facilities of the Grozneftegaz association nearby to help understand the situation. Chechen policemen, naturally, sided with their fellow countrymen. However, the military flatly refused to pay and demanded that the road be cleared. The Chechens, for their part, also did not want to retreat. A quarrel ensued, someone pulled out a weapon, and shots rang out. As a result, a battle ensued, during which two employees of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs, one soldier and two local residents were killed. Another federal fighter was also wounded. As the firefight progressed, more and more villagers began to gather at the scene of the emergency, as a result of which both sides ceased fire and dispersed.
At first, information about the incident was not confirmed either by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic or by the military prosecutor's office. But by the evening, the military prosecutor's office of the United Group of Forces in the North Caucasus nevertheless opened a criminal case into the shooting, although for now under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on abuse of official powers.
