Ivan Sklyarov is being employed in Nizhny Novgorod

On the sidelines of the Legislative Assembly (LA) of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the further political fate of now ex-governor Ivan Sklyarov is being actively discussed.

As the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Anatoly Kozeradsky said, he intends to propose Ivan Sklyarov as a candidate for the post of representative of the legislative assembly in the Federation Council. At the same time, Mr. Kozeradsky recalled that Ivan Sklyarov already worked in the Senate as chairman of the Committee on Federation Affairs, the Federal Treaty and Regional Policy, and noted that if the issue is resolved positively for the region, “such an important committee in the Federation Council will not be lost” .

Meanwhile, deputies of the Legislative Assembly may not agree with the opinion of their chairman. A source in the regional parliament does not rule out that deputies “may give the former governor a ride.” This may be due to the fact that Ivan Sklyarov suffered a resounding defeat, despite the use of administrative resources and the active support of the federal government. At the same time, how the new governor Gennady Khodyrev behaves towards Mr. Sklyarov will also play a role.

Other sources claim that if plenipotentiary envoy Sergei Kiriyenko does not leave Ivan Sklyarov without his support, it will be difficult to throw the ex-governor out of big politics. Mr. Kiriyenko may be interested in having Mr. Sklyarov represent the region in the Senate.

It is still unknown what the ex-governor himself thinks about his future. After Mr. Khodyrev's inauguration, he went on vacation.
