| Apple Computer Inc. intends to strengthen its leadership team. If last year Business Week magazine could call its board of directors one of the worst in America, now such wording is unlikely to be acceptable. On Wednesday, it was decided to add former vice president and former US presidential candidate Al Gore to Apple's board of directors.
Mr. Gore is one of the most technologically savvy American politicians. Even in commercials for the 2000 presidential campaign, he was remembered, among other things, as the owner of a Thinkpad laptop manufactured by IBM. However, Apple representatives say that the former candidate always preferred to use only their Macintosh.
On the company's board of directors, Mr. Gore will take the seat vacated in September last year after the departure of Oracle Chairman and CEO Larry Ellison. “Al brings to Apple a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from leading the largest organization in the world, the US government. He is also an avid Mac user and edits home videos using Final Cut Pro,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
As for Mr. Gore's political ambitions, despite refusing to participate in the presidential race in 2004, he still does not intend to completely leave the political field. Bush's former opponent still has the highest rating among Democrats, and therefore intends to remain active in big politics and help other candidates of his party.
