The Accounts Chamber was pleased with the work of VEB

The results of eight audits of Vnesheconombank conducted by the Accounts Chamber this year indicate the high efficiency of its activities as an agent of the government for servicing external debt and an agent of the Russian Pension Fund for investing pension savings. On Friday, VEB Chairman Vladimir Chernukhin was personally informed about this by the Chairman of the Accounts Chamber, Sergei Stepashin. According to the bank's press service, Messrs. Stepashin and Chernukhin discussed at a working meeting the results of audits carried out by the Accounts Chamber in the main areas of Vnesheconombank's activities.

Five of the eight inspections concerned the bank's activities as a government agent in the field of servicing public external debt. “The audit reports of the Accounts Chamber provide sufficient grounds for a positive assessment of the activities of Vnesheconombank as an agent of the government and indicate high professionalism in performing agency functions, which allows optimizing government spending on servicing external debt,” said Mr. Stepashin.

Auditors of the Accounts Chamber also checked the work of VEB as part of another agency function. As you know, during the pension reform, VEB was appointed by the government as a state management company for investing the pension savings of “silent people” - those Russians who did not transfer the funds of the funded part of their pension to private management companies. According to the VEB press service, the Accounts Chamber inspected the bank as part of its performance as an agent of the Pension Fund for investing pension savings in government securities denominated in foreign currency. Sergei Stepashin positively assessed the results of this audit: “Vnesheconombank, being one of the major participants in the international Russian bond market, is able to very accurately assess the situation and effectively carry out assigned operations.”

Another result of the inspections can be considered that Sergei Stepashin presented the heads of VEB with awards from the Accounts Chamber: Vladimir Chernukhin - a certificate of honor from the Chairman of the Accounts Chamber, and the First Deputy Chairman of Vnesheconombank Nikolai Kosov - the sign “For Merit in Expert Work” of the second degree (this award awarded for contribution to the development of financial discipline, the system of state financial control, active cooperation with the Accounts Chamber in expert and analytical activities). Vladimir Chernukhin assured Mr. Stepashin that Vnesheconombank treats the conclusions and recommendations of the Accounts Chamber with maximum attention and responsibility. “The findings of the Accounts Chamber auditors help improve the quality of our work and increase its efficiency,” said the head of VEB.
