The Parliament of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic begins the fight against crime
The Parliament of Karachay-Cherkessia intends to discuss the crime situation in the republic. The People's Assembly of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic will convene for an extraordinary session on September 28 in connection with a series of political murders that have occurred recently. The parliamentarians, according to the deputy of the People's Assembly Murat Khatukaev, “were very concerned about the two latest murders” - of their colleague, director of the collective farm market in Cherkessk Aznavur Suyunchev, and the candidate for the post of mayor of Karachaevsk, deputy chairman of the socio-political movement “Renaissance” Keram Semenov. In the republic, Mr. Khatukaev told a correspondent of the Vremya Novostey newspaper, recently “attacks on politicians and police officers have become more frequent, and Wahhabis are participating in many of the actions.”
The leader of the opposition movement to the President of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Vladimir Semenov, Murat Karaketov, named the names of politicians who have recently been assassinated. These are State Duma deputy Tikeev, parliament member of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Melnikov, head of the national Karachay organization “Alan” Semenov, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Vozrozhdenie Respubliki” Panov and his deputy Khatuev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Batchaev.
Mr. Karaketov calls the murder of the deputy chairman of “Renaissance” “a political order, a reaction to the fact that Keram Semenov decided to run for mayor of Karachaevsk,” and what caused the other assassination attempts is, according to him, a complete mystery. He rejected the version about the “redistribution of property and spheres of influence” that had begun in the republic. This reason for the hunt for politicians is also rejected by Mr. Khatukaev, who is one of the leaders of the Circassian national movement, but, according to him, he cannot understand what is happening, “tie ends meet.”
The rest of the deputies of the People's Assembly of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic remain in the dark about the reasons for all these attempts and murders. This increases their anxiety and feelings of insecurity. Therefore, the heads of law enforcement agencies of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic have been summoned to an extraordinary meeting of parliament to tell them how the police and the prosecutor’s office will fight crime in general and attempts on politicians in particular.
