Another major accident at the construction site of an elite house marked yesterday for the Moscow authorities. At about one o'clock in the afternoon on Friedrich Engels Street, 31, not far from the Baumanskaya metro station, where the Miel company had almost completed the construction of a nine-story panel building, the extension of a two-story store almost completely collapsed. What caused the accident is still unknown. The reinforced concrete panels, according to eyewitnesses, simply suddenly collapsed like a house of cards without any external influences. Finishing work was already underway in the store itself. Yesterday morning, a team of painters was working there, who literally five minutes before the accident decided to take a lunch break and went outside.
Civil Defense and Emergency Situations and Rescue Service teams immediately arrived at the site and, fearing that workers might have fallen under the collapsed slabs, examined the rubble for several hours. But, fortunately, there were no casualties. Yesterday, to investigate the causes of the incident, the city authorities created a special commission of representatives of the State Emergency Service, Gostekhnadzor and the Central Internal Affairs Directorate. According to preliminary data, the collapsed store was built more than ten years ago, and the residential building was being “adjusted” to it. It is not yet clear what caused the fall - an old mistake by the builders of the store itself or the appearance of a residential building nearby.
