At the box office, the teenage fantasies of Zach Snyder about opposing evil by violence and modern Hollywood avant -garde

The director of “ 300 Spartans ” and “ Guardians ” has already managed to establish himself as an author who prefers visual formalism and rich action to other elements of the movie, such as a script, drama or worked out characters. With his new film “Forbidden Reception”, where Snyder for the first time for himself turned out to be the role of a director, a screenwriter, and a producer, the bar rises to a new level - “How and what is going on on the screen” fully overshadows the answer to the question “why”. As a result, on the one hand, hundreds of devastating reviews, unconvincing fees and frightening sundress radio were obtained, and on the other hand, a green screen and a modern Hollywood avant -garde pumped to the maximum limit.

After the death of the mother, a 20-year-old doll and her sisters have problems with a stepfather. The bald uncle looks lustfully at the girls, and the heroine has no other choice but to take a gun and defend herself. But the younger sister gets the released bullet, and the doll is taken to the psychiatric hospital for the optional lobotomy, which the stepfather took care ahead of time. Before the arrival of a doctor, skillfully destroying the frontal lobes, five days remain. At this time, the doll plunges into a fictional world: the walls of the psychiatric hospital turn into the decoration of an elite brothel, girlfriends in the ward become stunning dancers, the attending physician turns a “mommy”, a corrupt employee plays the role of the main pimp, and the doctor with lobotomy turns out to be an invisible gangster, ready to buy a young virgin.

Together with the girlfriends of Amber, a rocket, blonde and a shower, the heroine conceived an escape, and in order to carry it out, companies need to get five artifacts and come up with how to distract the ubiquitous guards. The answer is quickly - the doll has an incredible talent for dance, during which men sit with open mouths, and reality falls another level lower - into the virtual universe, where the girls packed by weapons mercilessly destroy everything in their path. With each new artifact and with each new dance, the heroines fall on different lines of the front: feudal Japan with samurai, the first world with zombies, the Middle Ages with dragons, the future with robots-until all this crazy does not come to its logical conclusion.

In the “ forbidden technique ”, ZA SNIDER does not engage in a cinema in his usual sense, but rather intersects with the latest trends in modern author's cinema, where leisurely history and contemplation are key characteristics for the mechanics of the picture. Only in the hands of the Snider are completely different tools. Green screen, teenage sexual fantasies, a crazy universe from violence and images of the average manga make a “forbidden technique” by the action film of the future, which is spoiled only by flat characters, predictable dialogs and banal stylization. And in this context, the “forbidden technique” is similar to a computer game, where saturated segments of action are thousands of times more important than dramatic interludes.
![]() | I am a gamer, I play computer games. In a sense, this movie is very strange, and some of it in its structure is similar to video games. In the sense that the hero must get an artifact, return, give it and get a new one. This is the dramatic component - a system of remuneration that constantly moves the story forward. But only this is not the only thing in the film, in addition to this, I tried to use other means and mythological elements, applying them on each other. I hope that the viewer will find some meaning in this. |
The Vachovski brothers with the “ Speed-General ” once tried to apply a similar approach, but the failure of the film showed that for modern Hollywood such a disregard for history is an avant-garde art, and the audience is not yet ready to perceive the movie as a derivative of a computer game. True, here the “forbidden reception” has its undeniable advantages. The cast of Emily Browning , Abby Cornish , Karl Gudzhino , Gena Malloon , Vanessa Anne Hajen and Jammy Chung pleasing to the eye as an anniversary selection of Playboy covers and introduces an unexpected context into the picture. Despite the fact that in the United States now every second is accusing Snyder of chauvinism, his story is more like the stylized apologetics of feminism. The director sincerely loves his characters and is quite Christianly trying to explain that even the latest prostitute has the right to resistance and long-awaited freedom. And the psychedelic soundtrack, in which Emily Browning re -shuts some songs, adds the picture in exciting sensuality.
The universal attitude to the “forbidden technique” is shown by the capture of 26 million not impressive for the 80 million blockbuster of the cash register and the words “masturbation”, “degenerate”, “fetashist”, “little boy” and “deadly boredom” English-speaking criticism. The most interesting thing is that the sensations after watching can be absolutely the same, and it will be fair if you go to the cinema for drama, deep characters and emotional shock, but it is much better to leave all this expectations somewhere else-a “prohibited technique” about completely different.
