We watched "Siberia. Monamur".
A dark, addictive movie with magnificent Siberian expanses and useless people abandoned in these expanses. It’s so scary to see how life there hasn’t changed in 200 years—or rather, it hasn’t gotten there yet. There is no life, but there are people. It would be hard to call them wonderful Russian people - but these are people who are reaching out from darkness and stench towards the light. Whoever has God in his soul has light. Here they do not recognize faith as a given; it is something to which they cannot even give a name. They don't know. Pity. mercy. Just hot breath nearby. Director and screenwriter Vyacheslav Ross, I don’t know anything about the cat except his previous film with the idiotic title “Dumb Fat Hare.” The actors besides Pyotr Zaichenko are also unknown to me. Good movie. Heavy and light at the same time. Puskepalis plays a crazy sadistic colonel who, in a godforsaken military unit among rusty hangars and fallen barracks, smokes expensive cigars, drinks cloudy moonshine from cognac glasses and rapes specially brought whores to Tombolanez Adamo)
There are some very serious mistakes in the script, but overall the film turned out to be very strong, very competent in structure, with increasing emotional tension, with great impact. I love this kind of movie. A movie that devastates you with suffering and hopelessness, leaving in your soul a mixture of despair and hope. I had the same aftertaste from the film “My Happiness.” These are very honest, passionate paintings.
