| The largest developer from Germany is building a shopping center in Moscow The main sensation of the second international conference “Investments in Trade” that opened recently was the announcement of the entry of the German company ECE Projektmanagement GmbH & Co. into the Russian market. KG. It is the largest developer in Germany and one of the most significant players in the European market. The company has implemented its experience in the construction and management of shopping centers in 74 projects operating successfully throughout Europe, and already in 2006 it intends to open the first shopping center in Moscow.
“We intend to build shopping centers both in Moscow and in other cities with a population of over a million,” Stefan Kugel, head of the foreign department of the ECE, told the Vremya Novostei newspaper. -- The format of the shopping center will be the same as in Europe, -- 28--35 thousand sq. m. m, several anchor tenants (main tenants occupying large areas - Ed. ) and several dozen smaller tenants. In Moscow, the Atrium shopping center has a similar format (near the Kursky railway station - Ed. ).”
The Russian industry for creating large retail facilities is developing rapidly—in Moscow alone, complexes with an area of more than 700 thousand square meters were built this year. m. The Moscow region has adopted a program according to which shopping centers should appear in every city with a population of more than 50 thousand people. According to the head of the department of consumer market and services of the Moscow government, Vladimir Malyshkov, in the capital there are now about 30 chains operating in the format of modern shopping food centers (both domestic and foreign), with more than 600 stores. Their announced development plans provide for an increase in the number of shopping centers by another quarter in the next few years.
