Anteater is a small Petersburg clothing brand. Although clothing itself plays a role here not more than an empty canvas, and in the foreground are prints and their authors - young artists, illustrators, graffiti -radiors and other cultural activists. The names of many of them are familiar to people dedicated to the Russian subcultural undergrand, skateboarding and graffiti.
Pop Shop | | The phenomenon of copyright prints has existed since the means of applying images on the fabric have become more or less available to everyone, but the real rise is traditionally associated with the era of the formation of street fashion. StreetWear literally grew out of prints on T -shirts - those that the founder of Stussy Stassy gave friends to his friends, trying to attract customers to his surf -master. Around the same time, the artist Keith Haring, the graffiti-raider and the young pop art star, opened Pop Shop stores, where he began to sell T-shirts with his prints. To date, there are a number of clothing manufacturers engaged in exclusively joint work with artists. This is the American brand Upper PlayGround, French Sixpack, Japanese-American 2k By Gingham. |

The brand appeared in 2007 through the efforts of the St. Petersburg photographer Nikita Vilkin as an attempt to contrast something boring and strongly overvalued assortment of St. Petersburg skateshopes. At first, Nikita’s main desire was to release inexpensive and high -quality clothing for adherents of street subcultures, but very soon one -time joint projects for the design of prints turned into constant practice and became the main line of work of the young company. At the end of last year, only three years after the appearance, Anteater celebrated a kind of anniversary - a hundredth print went into print.
Nikita Vilkin, photographer, founder Anteater | | “We work with the most relevant, talented and underground personalities in street culture, we are not sprayed, but try to work narrowly within our concept. I would not want to focus on someone definite, because all these people are our friends or, even if just friends, then we are very respected by us, and I do not want to offend any of them. I can note interesting collages: with the American Proskater and the popular artist Damion Silver - the print was the picture from his first production; with the English illustrator George Langham ; With a native of Israel Elna , a man who himself feeds on the energy of skateboarding, who did a lot of projects for the strongest brands in this area. Of the domestic guys, perhaps, I would like to say a lot of thanks to ASKE , because he gave us an impetus in terms of collaborations " |
