The Legislative Assembly formed the composition of the City Electoral Commission for five years. The commission included two United Russia members at once, representatives of the other parliamentary parties got one seat each. “Come on, goodbye!” - the deputies said to the ex-leaders of the State Electoral Committee Alexander Gnetov and Dmitry Krasnyansky.
The current composition of the State Electoral Commission, which was appointed in 2008, ceases its work on July 3.
The new composition according to the Legislative Assembly quota included seven: the nominee of the Krasnenkaya Rechka Municipal Organization, United Russia member Alexey Berezin (29 votes), United Russia representative and current deputy chairman of the State Electoral Commission Alexander Teterdinko (40), current member of the election commission, “Socialist Revolutionary” Mikhail Voronkov (44), liberal -democrat Maria Mitrokhina (42), Yabloko member Olga Pokrovskaya (39), communist Vladimir Semenov (40) and Secretary of the City Election Commission Nina Shubina (29 votes).
The figure of 28-year-old Teterdinko is curious. The young man represents the interests of the City Election Commission in the courts regarding the elections held in December. He advocates the systematic rejection of all requests from opposition lawyers. The official did not lose a single case in which the commission was accused of rigging the voting results. He became part of the current GIK at the suggestion of the Zvezdnoye municipal organization (it was in this municipality that “secret” elections were first tested) and the Gagarinskoye municipality.
According to the speaker of the city parliament, Vyacheslav Makarov, the priority when selecting candidates was one thing - high professional qualities. The second United Russia member, lawyer Alexey Berezin, “will strengthen the commission from a professional point of view.” Makarov hopes that the new State Election Commission will ensure transparency and absolute legitimacy of the elections.
The former chairman of the IKMO “Red River” Sergei Ponomarev was ostracized. Despite his merits (Matvienko’s almost one hundred percent result in the Krasnenkaya Rechka municipal organization and his efforts in the December elections in the Vasileostrovsky district), Ponomarev did not receive a single vote.
19 deputies voted for the activist “Observers of St. Petersburg”, candidate from the “League of Women Voters” Ivan Kvasov, who was going to ensure transparency in the work of the commission. The day before, famous TV presenter Mikhail Shats announced support for Kvasov’s candidacy. He claimed that his “confidence in the GIK will increase if Kvasov gets there.” “At least I know his name, what he looks like and how, if anything, to find him,” said the showman.
In total, the election commission has 14 people. Half are appointed by the Legislative Assembly, half by the mayor, who has until June 26 to decide. It is expected that Georgy Poltavchenko will employ Alexey Puchnin, who is now the head of the election commission of the Tambov region, in the State Electoral Commission. Varyag, who has earned a reputation in his homeland as a champion of falsification, is tipped for the post of chairman of the election commission of the northern capital.
