The winemakers of Europe are in anticipation. While the EU, due to drought and heat, recently began to make compensatory payments to peasants, winemakers, who, perhaps, are rejoicing at the hands of the extremely extremely summer summer. So, exquisite wine? Despite the unusual heat, winemakers are careful: too early, many of them had to begin harvesting. Nevertheless, wine, white, red, will be good everywhere, today Suddeutsche Zeitung writes (translation of the article on the website inopressa.ru ).
The harvest has begun as early as ever over the past 110 years, and not only in Bordeaux, Bordolas and Bozhole. In Germany, for example, in Paalse, grapes began to be collected three weeks earlier than usual. Even on the Turing rivers Zaala and UNSTRUT, in the northern northern wine -making areas of Europe, have already begun to collect the crop. Vinograms could not be left on the vines: ripe fruits under the influence of heat and sun quickly acquire a taste of vinegar, such are no longer suitable for winemaking. True, the early harvest also does not contribute to the high quality of wine. After all, the content of sugar and minerals in grapes increases as the sunlight is exposed. Therefore, the content of alcohol in wine, close to 14%, will be able to achieve only in a few wine -making regions.
The vine, the plant, whose roots go very deep underground, receives the moisture necessary for it even in conditions of drought. Despite this, many vineyards, for example, in the Vahaau Valley or the Reingau region would not have suffered dry and hot weather of this summer, if not for artificial irrigation. In Italy, some vineyards are still seriously injured. This, first of all, concerns the “Nezbiolo” variety, grown in Piedmont, from which Barolo and Barbaretso’s wines are made, which are the best wines of the world.
The crop this year is slightly less than usual. Nature in the summer, when it lacks evening coolness, reduces the number of leaves and fruits, thereby improving the quality of the latter.
This year, due to unusual weather conditions, unwanted apple acid forms in the fruits before ordinary. If the autumn is wet, but not too rainy, with temperature changes, wine acid will help to cope with this: it gives any guilt, but especially white, a special bouquet. It will also depend on this how 2003 wines will be stored. Wines in which there are few acids are poorly aging.
The care that winemakers could forget about this year is a fungus. There was no powdery mildew anywhere, almost nowhere - wet rot, diseases that winemakers from the northern regions are most afraid of.
