Are you a real cool kid? Inflate your tires with nitrogen!!
“Many people feel better after filling their tires with nitrogen.”
From the advertising site:
"The advantages of filling tires with nitrogen compared to filling tires with air:
- Increasing the smoothness and softness of passing uneven road surfaces
- Improving wheel shock absorption and reducing the load on the car suspension
- Improved car handling
- Improved stability when cornering, changing lanes and pulling off to the side of the road
- Improved traction and reduced braking distance
- Reduced wheel slip during an emergency start"
- etc. see, for example, here: www.taganka.biz/tyrecharging.htm
What motivates these improvements? But nothing.
The shock-absorbing properties of a wheel are determined by the quality of the tire and the pressure inside the wheel.
Gas pressure is the force exerted by molecules on the inner surface of the tire.
Pressure of one atmosphere is the weight of a column of air as high as the thickness of the atmosphere, distributed over a surface of one square meter.
It makes no difference what gas creates it - air, nitrogen, mercury vapor or even hydrogen sulfide.
Still, one atmosphere is 100,000 newtons per 1 square meter. The tire does not distinguish the smell and color of gas, unfortunately. This is such a little thing.
In physical studies carried out at temperatures above 1000 C, to prevent oxidation of contacts and samples, they are placed in a vacuum chamber. It is difficult to create a deep vacuum, so it is much cheaper and easier to displace air (which, by the way, also consists of 75.5% nitrogen) with some gas, most often cheap and accessible nitrogen.
The tires of Formula 1 cars are pumped with nitrogen due to frequent explosions during accidents - at breakneck speeds, parts of the car become very hot, and the rupture of a wheel with nitrogen reduces the likelihood of a fire by at least a small fraction. Nitrogen in the wheels cannot in any way affect the driving properties of the car.
The composition of the air is 75.5% nitrogen, 23% oxygen and other gases.
The molar mass of air is 29 g/mol, nitrogen - 28 g/mol.
The densities of air and pure nitrogen at the same temperature are almost the same.
The heat capacity is the same.
Thermal conductivity is almost the same.
The sizes of the molecules are almost the same, and there are no advantages of oxygen over nitrogen when leaking through tires .
In short, the usual scam for money, fueled by the game on ChSV - on tires inflated with nitrogen, green caps are now screwed on at tire shops. Now the coolest guys can be seen right away. Using the green caps, you can take a census of poor students - they don’t remember, they know neither physics, nor chemistry, nor natural history.
And Fursenko has nothing to do with it this time - most of these guys are already over 50 ;)
But something inspired me
