| The first major film of 2004 is already out. And in fact, he is, of course, the third. The Return of the King, the final part of Tolkien's trilogy. Peter Jackson and his team, who have done work in comparison with which even the megalomania of “Cleopatra” seems like the handiwork of parallelists, will finally receive all possible awards, which (obviously on purpose) were not particularly indulged in by the first two films. Two hundred and one minutes of this exceptional action in all respects sums up the most ambitious film project of recent times. And he draws a line under the now familiar ritual: while waiting for the American release of the next episode, review the full version of the previous episode, then watch the next one - and wait for the full version of this one, and so on... At the end of 2004, it will be possible to watch three full versions in a row . And when these ten-plus hours fly by in one breath, you will probably feel sad. And you just have to remember the words of Gandalf addressed to the Guardians at parting: “Well, my dears, here, on the seashore, the end of our earthly commonwealth has come. Peace be with you! I’m not saying “don’t cry,” there are also joyful tears.” It seems like everything will end with such joyful tears. And Jackson will make his long-time dream come true - he will begin filming a new version of King Kong. “The Return of the King” will be released in Russian theaters on January 22.
The second dream film is, of course, the second, but at the same time the fifth. Or the second half of four. We are talking about Quentin Tarantino's film Kill Bill. Part 2". Bill will finally appear on the screen in all his glory, the relationship between him and the bride will be clarified once and for all, and viewers will finally be able to see the same gray-bearded old man who jumped on the bride’s sword in the commercial for the first part. In this case, you can dream with good reason: Tarantino has everything ready. If he were filming a sequel now, having heard everything that was said about the first part, the fate of the film would be in doubt. And so - everything is done and waiting in the wings. The wait won't be long: the film will be released in Russia on March 4, almost on the eve of International Women's Day.
Finally, a personal dream: I really want the film “Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation” to be at least minimally successful. Director Phil Tippett, a renowned master of special effects and animation who worked with RoboCop, Indiana Jones, Star Wars and the first Troopers, is working on the sequel to one of the greatest films of recent years. It seems that not a single actor who played in the first part will now be present, and even without Paul Verhoeven it’s scary to approach such a thing, but still, still... The charge of the first film was so powerful that even a spin-off sequel should enough fire and the shine of steel. In America, the film will be released directly on DVD in March, but some European countries have already decided to release it in cinemas. Maybe we will figure it out too. And then you won’t have to dream about anything anymore. Stanislav F. ROSTOTSKY
