Ultra-station, British electro-pop group; The forerunner of the British Electro-Pop and New Web of the early 1980s; One of the first post -punk groups to replace the guitars to the synthesizer. Formed in 1974. The original composition: John Fox - vocals; Steve Shirs - guitar; Warren Cann - drums; Chris Cross - Bas; Billy Curry - keyboards, synthesizer, violin.
In their early work, Ultravox borrowed a lot from the pioneers of the electronic rock of the 1970s Kraftwerk and the art glami musicians Brian Ino and Roxy Music. Having signed in 1976 a contract with ISland Records, the group, with the participation of producer Brian Ino, released its first album. The disk could not attract the attention of the wide layers of music lovers, although the team had some influence on the movement of British synthesizer music (in particular on the work of Gary Newman).
In 1978, Shirsa was replaced by Robin Simon. However, after the commercial failure of the Systems of Romance album and the breakdown of the contract with ISLAND, he left the group, followed by Fox, which was the main creative force of Ultravox. Both musicians chose to do a solo career. The team was disbanded. Kurry at one time played Visage, where he met Mij Ur - vocals, a guitar, a former member of Slik and Rich Kids. The musical ideas of these two musicians coincided, and they decided to restore Ultravox in the company with Cross and Cann.
The revived team signed a new contract with Chrysalis Records. With the advent of the Vienna Longple, Ultravox received the long -awaited recognition. The album lasted in the second position of the British charts for two months (January - February 1981). In the next three years, most singles of the group were constantly present in the best twenty. The greatest demand was the All Stood Still (1981), Reap The Wild Wind (1982) and Dancing with Tears in My Eyes (1984). The melodic style of cheers, a little reminiscent of the Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet, was very popular in Western Europe, but in America the group was not much successful. In the end, UR left the group. The leadership of the team was assumed by Billy Curry. In 1993, with the help of vocalist, Tony Fennella Ultravox released a mediocre album "Revelation". In 1995, Curry updated the composition of the team, inviting the vocalist Sam Blue and guitarist Winnie Burns to recording “Ingenuity”.
