EXHIBITIONS

"Andy Warhol: Artist of Modern Life." The largest exhibition of works by the king of pop art ever held in Russia. The exhibition features more than 300 paintings, drawings and photographs, as well as rare films and archival materials. Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val , until November 13.

"Russian pop art". In parallel with the Andy Warhol exhibition, in the neighboring halls of the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val there is an exhibition demonstrating how pop art developed in Russian art of the second half of the twentieth century. Presented are 250 works by 70 artists of different generations, including Mikhail Roginsky, Boris Turetsky, Ivan Chuikov, Rostislav Lebedev, Igor Shelkovsky, Leonid Sokov, Alexander Kosolapov, Mikhail Chernyshev, Alexander Shaburov - Vyacheslav Mizin, Sergey Shutov, Vasily Tsagolov, Vladislav Mamyshev ( Monroe), Sergei Mironenko, Sergei Shekhovtsov, Oleg Kulik and others. “Dead road. Construction No. 501-503.” The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the construction of the notorious Salekhard-Igarka railway, or “Dead Road”. The route was built in 1947-1953 by Gulag prisoners and was supposed to run in the Far North, along the Arctic Circle. After Stalin's death, it was decided to liquidate the construction site. By that time, about 800 kilometers had been built - about half the distance. The history of this construction is overgrown with numerous myths and legends; the locomotives and barracks abandoned along the crumpled road surface are reminiscent of the eerie landscapes in Tarkovsky’s Stalker. The exhibition will feature archival and contemporary photographs, documents, some items from camp life, as well as unique maps of construction sites from museum collections.
