A video has appeared on the Internet showing Tomsk car enthusiasts drifting on the lower terrace of the Camp Garden. The fun ended in an accident.
“Drifting in Tomsk ended in complete failure,” writes user Roland in a comment to the video.
The regional traffic police department explained to us that there are no permitted drift sites in Tomsk.
“We face this problem every year and every summer, traffic police inspectors conduct special surveillance of areas where such motorists can gather,” the department told us.
According to the traffic police, the area in front of the MiraMix shopping center and on the lower terrace of the Camp Garden are especially popular for drifting in Tomsk.
“The area near MiraMix is considered more problematic, since other traffic participants may also get hurt there. At night, a crew is on duty there, checking for violations, checking the drivers’ documents and compliance with safety measures,” explained Dmitry Emelyanov, head of the propaganda department of the traffic police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Tomsk.
If violations are recorded, drivers will be held administratively liable.
For reference: Drifting is a cornering technique and a type of motorsport characterized by cornering with a deliberate stall of the drive axle and passing in a controlled drift at the maximum speed possible to maintain the angle of speed on the track, requiring the car to have a rear drive-sliding axle. Using such a skid is not the fastest way to corner, but it is very effective and spectacular. In Russian the term “controlled drift” is also used and the word “drifting” is found.
